A seminar is very special and important for Gongkwon Yusul. It is necessary to have a competent instructor to help you learn the fine details. A normal class is around one hour, however this was three hours.
My experience consisted of many different stages. In the beginning, I would go to every class on Friday nights, learn about new techniques I would need to teach students new things. I would also learn how to perfect old techniques. A few weeks before the seminar, I became worried I wouldn't have enough time to guarantee I would have everything memorized and ready. So, I started going two times every week, which could be a hassle to balance school and time at the studio, but I managed to fit everything onto my tight schedule. On the day of the seminar, I arrived early, and was reviewing everything in my head as more and more people began to file in. Once we all were stretched out, we were doing normal warm ups, but with more emphasis on the minute details. Then it was my turn to start teaching. As everyones eyes turned on me, I almost became overwhelmed. But, my rigorous training from the past few months helped me stay calm and it felt like clockwork. I learned many thing from my experience, like how to teach effectively, how to assure students safety, and how to make sure they understand the techniques so no one would get hurt. I also learned good time management and to always have the students best interests and well being in mind. |
